Solvent Cement FAQ

1. What is the difference between CPVC and UPVC solvent cement?

CPVC solvent cement is specifically formulated to withstand higher temperatures and pressures associated with hot and cold water distribution. UPVC cement is generally used for cold water, drainage, and irrigation systems. Using the correct grade is vital for bond integrity.

2. Why should I use a primer with solvent cement?

Using a primer like C-BOND Strong Primer is essential for heavy-duty or high-pressure applications. It cleans the pipe surface and begins the softening process, allowing the solvent cement to penetrate deeper for a stronger “cold weld.”

3. How long does it take for a joint to be pressure-ready?

Initial set times occur within minutes, but for full pressure testing, we recommend waiting at least 2 to 4 hours for standard lines and up to 24 hours for high-pressure industrial applications.
